CCA – Junior Olympic Qualifiers 2015

Posted on | January 18, 2015 | No Comments

Updated March 10, 2015

Teams must qualify through their particular zone. Your team must register for your division’s zone qualifier prior to registering for the Junior Olympics tournament. After completion of your zone tournament, your placement will determine your qualification in the JOs based on the FINAL allocations posted online.

The USA Water Polo Junior Olympic Championships is the largest age group water polo tournament in the Nation. Athletes and teams come from across the country to compete on the national stage. The Junior Olympics Tournament consists of two divisions, the Championship Division and the Classic Division. Teams compete over a 4-day period within their respective age category.

Dates announced for Coastal California Zone 2015 Junior Olympic Qualification Tournament:

May 29 thru 31, 2015
Host: Commerce

June 12 thru 14, 2015
Host: Foothill

June 19 & 21, 2015
Host: Arroyo Grande

Reminder, each team must enter BOTH the qualifier and national event in order for the registration to be deemed valid. A minimum 50% deposit is required at time of registration.

In order for a coach to be eligible to be listed on a roster, he/she must have completed the SafeSport certification training online. Results are being updated weekly. Please feel free to email the certificate to certifications@usawaterpolo.org. Due to the high volume, please allow 48 hours for processing.

Club admins have the capability to view coach certification status. After logging in to USAWP membership account, select “Club Members” from the Club Admin menu. Choose the “Coach/Referee” member tab and “current” in the drop-down. List can be exported. There will be two columns for SafeSport on the right:

1.) If the word SafeSport is listed with a date in the following column, it is complete

2.) If there is the word SafeSport (with no date) the coach is in progress

3.) If both columns are blank, the coach has not begun the process

Effective immediately, team managers will no longer be listed as an option for national and sanctioned events. All “staff” members on the bench with athletes must have all current certifications on file, background screening, First Aid, CPR, and SafeSport. A head coach must be selected to a roster. There is also room for one assistant coach and an additional three spaces available for alternate coaches. Alternate coaches may be used when teams share coaches among multiple teams. ID checks prior to each game will continue to confirm the coach(es) present for each game. Should a coach receive a red card during a game and no other certified coach from the roster is available to replace him/her, it will be deemed a forfeit. This rule applies to both national and sanctioned events.

10&U and 12&U Age Group Rule Modifications
Please review the 10&U and 12&U rule modifications. These changes have been implemented in order to help with the overall development of our sport at the youth level and will be played at 2015 Junior Olympic Qualification Tournaments and the 2015 Junior Olympics. There is a one-page document with examples, as well as a video to help understand the modifications. All information can be found on the Rules page: usawaterpolo.org/resources/rules-ethics.html.

Club Membership
Club grace period ended on March 1st. All clubs who have not renewed for the 2015 membership year have been moved into a “Lapsed” status and will need to renew immediately to allow athletes to affiliate with the club.

Changes to Club Affiliation
A minor change was made to the affiliation policy listed in the Conduct of Championships governing all national events, including Junior Olympics. New this year an athlete’s club affiliation is locked once rostered for a Zone Qualification tournament. If an athlete is not rostered for a Zone Qualification tournament he/she must affiliate with club of choice no later than July 1.
