LOS ANGELES, CA – June 28 – USA Water Polo’s Coastal California Zone (CCA) Announces Roster for Upcoming 48th International Children’s (Summer) Games to be held in Lake Macquarie, Australia December 6th – 11, 2014.

CCA Zone Chair Lori Gentry and Head Coach Alex La have assembled a roster featuring athletes from several of the zone’s top clubs. The Team will represent the City of Los Angeles as they compete in the largest multi-sport international youth games recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

NSW Minister for Sport, Graham Annesley, said: “The Games bring together an alliance of cities and individuals from around the world who share a common goal of forming friendships and promoting health and wellbeing, cultural exchange and education through sport.”

CCA Zone Chair, Lori Gentry, said: “This is a unique opportunity that was presented to the Coastal (California) Zone by the City of Los Angeles.  They have sent a Volleyball team for the last several years and this year wanted to send a Water Polo Team instead.  We are excited to give these young men an opportunity to showcase their talent on an international stage.”

Head Coach, Alex La, said: I’m excited for these young players, it’s not often you get out-of-country, international, experience at their age.”  “USAWP and the CCA Zone board is behind us all the way, we’ve got a lot to do, and it is time to get to work.”

Host city for the 2014 Games, Lake Macquarie City Council was the first Australian city to participate in the ICG, competing in San Francisco in 2008. Lake Macquarie is the first city in the Southern Hemisphere to host this event. Over the past five years, there have been close to 80 cities from more than 40 countries represented at each of the Games.

The Games will see participation by over 2,000 athletes between the ages of 12 and 15, as well as coaches, heads of delegation and city representatives. It is expected that more than 1,500 family members and friends will travel to the Games to support their teams.
